Advocating for a Healthier Food Future in Europe

SugarWatch
Europe

SugarWatch Europe is a civil society initiative working to shed light on the hidden impact of added sugars in Europe’s food system. We bring transparency to the practices of the agri-food industry, highlight the public health burden, and advocate for stronger EU-wide regulation.

Why it matters

The hidden costs of added sugar

Excessive consumption of added sugars is one of the leading dietary drivers of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Beyond the human cost, it places a heavy financial burden on European health systems — estimated at billions of euros annually in avoidable medical expenses. Despite this, the agri-food industry continues to aggressively market sugar-laden products while lobbying against stricter regulations. SugarWatch Europe exists to make these dynamics transparent and to push for policies that put public health before corporate profits.
